The Barnes Heights & Cornell Mountain Railway Company constructed their own power house to provide power for their line up the hills behind Portland. A July 1, 1892 article that says the plant was to be constructed “near where Johnson’s slaughter-house used to be,” which places it near 23rd and Burnside, between Burnside and Flanders.
