The Barnes Heights & Cornell Mountain Railway Company constructed their own power house to provide power for their line up the hills behind Portland. A July 1, 1892 article that says the plant was to be constructed “near where Johnson’s slaughter-house used to be,” which places it near 23rd and Burnside, between Burnside and Flanders.

However, the power house doesn’t seem to have lasted long. The line ceased operations in early 1894 and the dynamos and other electrical equipment were removed from the building. When the line started up again in November 1894, it drew its power from the Union Power Company’s plant instead.
