Also simply known as the “Chapman Street Car Barn” after the street it faced onto and that the cable line ran along before heading up to the Heights.
After the cable line was discontinued in 1904, the power plant seems to have passed into the hands of the Portland General Electric Company, which operated it as Power Station “D” for about a year. The streetcar companies, however, continued to use the building for storage of cars at the same time. Along with PGE, the building was absorbed into the property of the Portland Railway, Light & Power Company in 1906 and was eventually sold off for $15,000 in December 1909. The plant was then resold to another property investor in May 1910, and a contract was let for its demolition on June 5, 1910.
