Sometimes referred to as the “Multnomah & Eastern Railway Company” or the “Eastern Multnomah Railway Company” in newspaper reports, though it is clear by context that these are all the same company.

A company that was formed in 1912 to extend a standard-gauge electric line from Cottrell on the Portland Railway, Light & Power Company’s Mount Hood line south to Sandy, and then up to Welches on Mount Hood and perhaps even beyond – Warm Springs gets a mention as a potential final destination. The line would have mainly been for bringing lumber and produce to town, but passenger service would also have been provided. After a promising start with a flurry of surveying and grading, the company failed to build to Sandy in the time allowed, and the project was cancelled. The citizens of Sandy – who had raised a $5000 bonus for the original line and really wanted to see that money put to use – then appealed to PRL&P to extend a branch line from Cottrell or Boring, but these efforts came to nothing.
