The main shops for the Oregon Electric Railway, located just to the east of their main line near SW Hood Avenue and S Woods Street in South Portland. Reports indicate that they were ready in time for the opening of passenger service in January 1908.

The shops burned down due to faulty wiring in the paint shop early in the morning of January 3, 1932. Four cars and an electric freight locomotive were lost. The shops were rebuilt by July, but passenger service lasted less than a year more.

A January 1936 inventory of Oregon Electric property is a bit vague about these shops, as it lists all property within Portland under one heading at milepost 0.0 (NW Flanders and 12th) – included in this is the “Old Jefferson Street depot” at milepost 1.71, and the “O.E. shop and store,” which does not have a milepost indicated.

Authorization for Expenditure E-2995, dated October 31, 1946, allowed for the sale of all the machinery at the shops, which was then to be moved to the SP&S NW Lovejoy Street facility.

In February 1951, the building – now occupied by a cooperage – was again destroyed by fire.
