A January 1936 inventory of the line notes: “Concrete sub-station. Three family operators’ cottage. Poor condition.”

Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) E-2892, dated December 5, 1944, authorized the retirement of all eight substations on the Oregon Electric network—including Pirtle—in preparation for the total abandonment of electric traction on July 10, 1945.

AFE #2955, dated January 18, 1946, allows for the sale of the substation operators’ cottage. A February 7, 1984 Linn County Inventory of Historic Resources entry for the Cartney substation notes that the cottage at Pirtle still existed at that time, albeit in a “substantially modified” form.

The shell of the substation still exists today, see the entry in the “Remnants” section of the site: Pirtle Substation (Oregon Electric)
