Richard Thompson describes this photograph of the Waconda substation in his book, Willamette Valley Railways:
“Waconda, seen here during construction, was a combined substation and agent’s office. The OE’s eight substations, which were located approximately 20 miles apart, included a two-story-high voltage compartment, an electrical operating room, and a ticket office with a waiting room. Station attendants acted in the multiple capacities of station agent, telegraph operator, and electrician.”
