A January 1936 inventory of the line notes: “Concrete sub-station. Good condition.” It does not mention the three-family operator’s cottage, so that must have already been moved to its known second location a half-mile to the east.
Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) E-2130, dated May 3, 1932, allows for the sale of a substation operators’ cottage at an unknown location. However, as all the other locations were still listed as having their cottage in that 1936 inventory, this must refer to Cartney.
AFE E-2892, dated December 5, 1944, authorized the retirement of all eight substations on the Oregon Electric network — including Cartney — in preparation for the total abandonment of electric traction on July 10, 1945.
