A citizen-led railway company that raised the funds necessary to construct a standard-gauge steam motor line from the junction of SE Hawthorne Blvd and SE 50th Avenue to Lents at the base of Mount Scott. The East Side Railway Company operated the line on the PC&MS’s behalf until 1901, when it went bankrupt. Service on the line was temporarily suspended until an agreement could be reached with the Portland City & Oregon Railway Company to electrify the line. This seems to have taken place by June 30, 1901, although the company wasn’t officially sold to the PC&O until February 1902.
